The Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde is a basilica in Marseille built in 1853-1864 in neo-Byzantine style by Henri-Jacques Espérandieu. Perched at the highest point of Marseille it is considered the guardian of the city and sailors. The bell tower is crowned by 11-meters tall gilded statue of the Virgin Mary.
