The Château d'If is a fortification on the island of If described in the novel of Alexandre Dumas "The Count of Monte Cristo". The castle was built in 1531 to defend Marseille, but later it was used as a prison. Tourists are offered tours of the prison cells, a café and a viewing platform with views across Marseille.
