Merida
Merida is an ancient capital of the roman province, and it still saves the architectural heritage of the great empire: the forum, antique amphitheater and Diana’s temple, triumph arch roman bridge and aqueduct – all this remains here well preserved. Nearby Alcazaba, the Arabian fortress built during the Muslim rule period of Spain is situated, and in the very heart of Merida there are Roman Art National Museum and cathedral of Saint Mary. Not far away from these sites is the medieval Church of St. Eulalia – one of the significant sites for Christian piligrims. Among all the cities of Spain, Merida is today’s leader in amount of well-preserved antique remains.
