Piazza San Marco
Piazza San Marco, looked over by the incessant gaze of the four bronze horses placed on the roof-top of the St. Mark’s Cathedral, is the main square of Venice. That is the very place where one of the greatest examples of gothic architecture, Doge’s palace is situated. Doge’s palace is the former residence of Venetian regents and the senate’s building. In front of it there is the biggest and the most ancient Venetian library, and the square ends up at the stairs of byzantine St. Mark’s Cathedral. Piazza San Marco has always been the center of Venetian political life and witnessed knight tournaments and executions, parades, processions and carnivals. And this is the place where innumerous Venetian doves are fed since medieval times.

Saint Mark's Basilica is a rare example of Byzantine architecture in the territory of Europe, which has become one of the main symbols of Venice. Its monumentality impresses both inside and outside. We can admire rich and delicate decoration, amazing bas-reliefs and mosaics with Bible scenes away the hours. You should know that it is prohibited to take photos and video in the cathedral and you can walk only on specially fenced paths. Visitors should pay attention to their appearance: clothing, especially for women, should not be too revealing. At the entrance visitors are provided disposable covers, allowing covering bare shoulders. It is not advisable to bring large backpacks and bags, as entrance with them is prohibited, however, it is offered to put in a luggage storage.

St Mark’s Campanile is a part and parcel of Venice panorama. The bell tower rises above the city captivating with ornamental decoration and history.
